BJA Registered Approved Providers

All BJA Registered Approved Providers have a duty of care for the sport and those who take part in it and must do everything within their power to reduce or eliminate loss, injury or damage to others and may be held legally liable if they fail to do so.

Sport, Recreation and Leisure Liability Insurance

This policy covers the cost of defending yourself against a claim if you are responsible for loss, damage or injury to someone else or their property.

Cover includes the professional advice you provide whilst coaching any BJA recognised activity, provided that the activity falls within the remit of your BJA approved training or qualifications.

Employers Liability Insurance

This policy protects Registered Approved Providers against the cost of a claim made against you following loss, damage or injury to someone else or their property. Cover is provided up to a maximum limit of £10m.

For those Providers who operate through a Limited company cover for Directors' & Officers' insurance can be included within the Sport, Recreation and Leisure Liability. All Directors and Officers of Limited Companies have a personal liability for any claim that is made against the company for breach of duty. Examples include:

Personal Accident Cover

Personal Accident can be provided in respect of your class members aged between 5 and 19 years of age and will provide payments directly to them if they are injured whilst taking part in a recognised judo activity. The cover is 'no fault' which means the appropriate payment will be made regardless of the cause of the accident.

Registered Approved Providers who employ assistant coaches or use the help of volunteers will require Employers Liability insurance by law.

This covers the Provider if they are held liable for an injury that an employee suffers during the course of their employment. The policy includes injuries to volunteers and the maximum limit of cover is £10m.

The definition of an ‘Employee’ includes labour only sub-contractors, hired or borrowed persons undertaking study or work experience, and volunteers.
